I choose to read books for many different reasons. Sometimes it's because I liked another book by that same author, it was recommended by a friend, it matches my mood, the cover strikes me as interesting, it's opposite of the way I think or my opinion on a subject, I need a light read, for professional development, I want to learn more about a time in history and so many other reasons. I have to say that finding out more about the author has really attracted my attention even more so, during this Indiana Reading contest. I have so enjoyed learning more about the person behind the words.
Phyllis Reynolds Naylor is one of the Indiana authors I've enjoyed reading about. It once again struck me how important words are. On her "About Phyllis" page, she describes a time when her teacher thought she plagiarized a funny poem that she had presented to her class. It was her work, but she said ....."but it always bothered me that I didn’t have that teacher’s confidence". No matter what the circumstances may be, we need to think before we use harsh words. Phyllis Reynolds has written so many wonderful books. Take a look at her books we have in the library and check them out today! Broaden your horizons and read a novel in verse! Helen Frost, author of many books, including novels in poems or verse novels, lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana!
