Action Packed Reading Contest will run August 1, 2017 - September 29, 2017! Be sure to check back later under "Upcoming Events".
In preparation for ordering books for the 2017-2018 school year, I would like your suggestions on books that you think would be good additions to our library. I keep a book request list for you so if you hear about any books that you would like to read and/or see some with great reviews, please let me know and I will add them to the list. We aren't always able to get all the books on the list (due to budget or books being out of stock), but we try our best to accommodate you! You may email me ([email protected]) or comment on this blog post. I'll be checking my email and blog frequently over the summer/early fall, so will add the books to the list as you send them to me. Hope the end of the year is going smoothly for you! As an educator in a school library, I found this to be inappropriate. Call me old fashioned, but I can't recommend this to anyone. I'll give it 1 star because I like how it emphasizes the need of many people helping each other through the grieving process, acceptance of others and the importance of working through your problems, although I don't necessarily agree with how that played out.
I liked this story, but was not a fan of the bad language (although it fits the scenario). Mary is accused of killing baby Alyssa. She goes to "baby jail" and then a group home, where she struggles everyday with other girls who have made bad choices. Her case is reopened as she fights to set the record straight and keep her unborn baby (she is pregnant). This is a 2018 Mock Printz Award nominee. For more information on the award, click Mock Printz Award. It's that time of the year! Please make sure you return all library books today. The good news is that you can continue enjoying library books throughout the summer and school year! You may read any of the 428 Follett Shelf E-Books (electronic books) for FREE. You DO NOT have to have internet access to read these E-Books - you just need to download them while you are online and then you may read them offline. Click here for Follett Shelf E-Book Directions. Also, don't forget about the Summer Reading Contest! Win a 2017-2018 Lancers All Sports Pass! Check it out! Please let me know if you have any questions! I thought I was tired of reading books about the Holocaust, but, alas, I found yet another one that I loved!!! Sometimes we don't understand why people are the way they are. This is the case for Hannah Sterling. She longs to understand more about her mother, Lieselotte, who died at the beginning of the book. Her attitude dramatically changes as she learns more about her family during WWII. I couldn't put this one down!
This book is available in the Johnson County Public Library. Click here to read more about it. Edinburgh Public Library is a reciprocal borrower with Johnson County, so you if you live in Johnson County, you can obtain a card with them. Contact Edinburgh Public Library for more information. Loved it! Things aren't always as they seem and everyone has struggles. Carmen is unable to have children and the lengthy adoption process is eating at her marriage, while Gracie is struggling with her alcoholic mother and juvenile delinquency. Even when things seem hopeless, sisters Carmen and Gracie find strength to get through their situations. They allow their walls to be torn down to let others in. This book is available at our local Edinburgh Public Library.
**All library books are due by Friday, May 12th.
E-Books available all year! |
